Dentists: Treat a patient in a friendly way.

The patient presents with a gross generalization. Distortions and deletions of information need to be explored. Most of the patients don’t like dentists. It’s a common phenomenon. But you can start questioning adding surprise in your voice that, “You don’t like dentists?” with expecting he or she will explain. It’s important tolisten to patients and let them express their thoughts and feelings. They may have had bad experiences with the dentists in the past. You can therefore show that you are different from their previous dentists and start a new chapter in the patient’s dental experience. “I couldn’t catch my breath the last time I had a root canal”, “I don’t want to lose any of my teeth”, “I had a very bad tooth pain last few days, please get me out of this pain” – These words are very common among all dental patients. Now it’s your duty to listen to them carefully and start an interviewing session to get the exact clinical data. Keep a warm smile and show your concern. Another important thing to deal with is fear of dental procedures among patients. As a result dentists will find some patients who fear dental appointments. Dental fear comes from previous experiences or may come naturally. Nowit’s you who can change the way they feel.Provide your patients with a caring and protective experience which will eliminate any fear from the patients.

Dentists should explain the whole treatment procedure to their patients and distract them with interesting anecdotes during the treatment. This prevents a patient from becoming too anxious. Positive statements like “It’s not going to hurt you”, “You will be perfectly all right”, “It’s a very simple matter, don’t panic” – can make the patients feel much better.
